Exploring the Secret of the Circle
Drink water from your own cistern,
And running water from your own well.
Should your fountains be dispersed abroad,
Streams of water in the streets?
Let them be only your own,
And not for strangers with you.
Let your fountain be blessed,
And rejoice with the wife of your youth.
As a loving deer and a graceful doe,
Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
And always be enraptured with her love.
— Proverbs 5:15–19
The Secret of the Golden Flower as explained by Osho involves a redirection of energy, in a sense a change of perspective to change the continuous outflow of a being’s energy into an inflow of energy into him.
The observer changes his point of attention to himself.
I would assume that this would cause the person to conclude what I have always seen, that all of the external world is a reflection of what is inside,
or to say it in a different way,
The outer world creates an invisible experience inside of you.
My ego was delighted to hear Osho say that the ancient drug “Soma” was indeed not a drug, but the moon itself, and that ancient peoples would become drunk off of this eternal source of light.
As my sensitivity to this world increased, my receptivity to a moonlit evening increased. There were times in young adulthood where I felt myself overwhelmingly at threat of possession of an unpossessable femininity rising from my spirit. As I found more balance and grounding in my life, I eventually began to change.
I began to see that woman in all of her beauty, and the beauty of the moon, they were the same.
I began to see that the beauty of the moon and the femininity inside of me, they were the same.
I saw that the moon in her luminous glow could never quite be captured,
but was actually a presence resting near my heart.
Over time, perhaps I stopped trying to possess it or even to be possessed by it, and I rested in its overwhelming power, just as I absorbed all the sunlight I could during the daytime.
I found that the woman I desired was far more in the moon than in any physical human woman I encountered on earth, that human women were goddesses representing a greater goddess in her own right and reflection,
but none were the essence itself.
I came to attempt to rest in the embrace of the moon, and eventually this became an intimate experience in which I became drunk with moonlight, its glow radiated from my own being, and I was her envoy, her vessel, her reflection.
I have just heard Osho state in his lectures that not only did people do this but he describes these same effects and goes further to say that when the man has an intimate encounter with his inner woman in this way, a cataclysmic event transpires within him.
He draws this back and relates this to the Secret of the Golden Flower,
saying that what was basically a half crescent of energy that was simply expending and being wasted has now become a full circle of energy.
Over and over he repeats the idea of looking back at yourself, or things in the natural world looking back at yourself, or others looking back at you,
through one example being a mirror exercise in which you imagine that your reflection is staring at you and that you are the reflection being stared at.
Osho states that an energy begins to fill you when you experience this, and I have felt what he is describing. He repeatedly brings up the Taoist concepts of Being and Non-Being, and the witnessing of Life’s livingness in the world and the quite lack of that in the observer.
I believe that Osho means to infer this,
that if you point the direction of the focus of consciousness towards the observer, you will see that there is nothing there. This is perceiving yourself as Non-Being, that there is no one there.
You have just perceived you, and seen the “embarrassment” in nakedness to see that there is no one behind the curtain.
Yet, you are also somewhere else, in order to look at yourself to perceive this.
In this, you are perceiving both Being and Non-Being at once, and I believe that to understand this secret of the circle, this secret of God, is to see that you are in a space between these two states.
With you in the middle, instantaneously you become aware of a bridge between these parts of existence, and with unity comes a unity between your inner man and inner woman, as well as death and life [in no particular order].
The discourse I am referring to is The Secret of The Golden Flower #07.
Did Solomon know of this secret?
He writes the following:
“When he drew a circle on the face of the deep.”
The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way,
Before His works of old.
I have been established from everlasting,
From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
When there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled,
Before the hills, I was brought forth. While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields,
Or the primal dust of the world.
When He prepared the heavens, I was there,
When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,
When He established the clouds above,
When He assigned to the sea its limit,
So that the waters would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth,
Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;
And I was daily His delight,
Rejoicing always before Him,
Rejoicing in His inhabited world,
And my delight was with the sons of men.Now therefore, listen to me, my children,
For blessed are those who keep my ways.
Are we talking about the circle he drew on the face of the deep?
